The James Review
Standardization doesn’t need to result in “one-choice fits all” standard layouts, classrooms or schools.

Over the years, ActivePlan has developed reusable and flexible generic “objects” in the form of design elements and furniture & equipment libraries that can work with most software applications, activity based SoAs and the required design specifications to deliver successful and easily managed school environments.

Building Information Modelling
20 years experience in BIM means the ActivePlan team can help clients and their delivery teams make the most of the Priority School Building Programme.

Bringing Stakeholders Together
These are very complex projects with many stakeholders (some of whom are inexperienced in design and construction) and the traditional methods of capturing needs, turning them into briefs and specifications and ensuring the delivered facilities satisfy those needs whilst achieving cost and time objectives are inadequate.

Collaborative Design
Currently, each party works in isolation from an IT perspective, publishing documents that others have to interpret and usually manually rekey into their own systems.
  • Integrates data from different software applications
  • Reduces wasted time
  • Reduces potential mistakes
  • Produces fully loaded floor plans and elevations more quickly
  • Produces accurate schedules and room data sheets automatically
Users are finally able to move around a full VR model (SketchUp) of the rooms, departments and whole floors before they finally sign off.

Asset management
AP Site Issues is a low-cost, web-based, user-friendly helpdesk that enables the local management of schools in terms of maintenance, H&S risks and statutory reporting. It contains a database of all the schools equipment & furniture, who supplied it and when, warranties, spares and manages the service level agreements including reporting KPIs.

Working with Government
ActivePlan has worked with DfES, PfS and several SPVs and their supply chains to develop an information management platform that:
  • Improves communication
  • Improves accuracy
  • Increases productivity
  • Increases agility
This applies from the earliest stages of user consultation through detailed design, construction and operational management of the finished building
